Santa Monica’s new Main Public Library will receive a Calibre Award for Environmental Design from the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) at a gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on March 28.The award recognizes architects and designers for their contribution to energy conscious, sustainable design. The library is on track to receive a Silver certification from the US Green Building Council, denoting its “high standard of leadership in energy and environmental design.”The 104,000 square foot library, which opened in January, was designed by Santa Monica architects Moore Rubell Yudell. The firm was recently given the 2006 American Institute of Architects Architecture Firm of the Year Award. IIDA has over 10,000 members and 30 chapters world wide. Now in its eighteenth year, the Calibre Award is given by the Southern California chapter.
