in LA Theatre Works’ take on ‘Intelligent Design’ The national tour of the LA Theater Works’ production of The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial is ending at the Skirball Cultural Center. The new play, with Edward Asner, Mike Farrell, and Sharon Gless, opens tonight, March 1 and runs through Sunday, March 4. Drawn from actual transcripts of the 1925 Scopes trial, in which the right to teach Darwin’s theory of evolution was challenged, Peter Goodchild’s docudrama was commissioned by LATW. It will be recorded at the Skirball for airing on the company’s nationally syndicated radio theater series, “The Play’s the Thing.” It will also be distributed to high schools around the country. The production was directed by Gordon Hunt. Also appearing are Matthew Patrick Davis, James Gleason, Harry Groener, Jon Matthews, Jerry Hardin, Robert Pescovitz, Rob Nagle, and David Alan Novak.It will be performed tonight, Thursday, and Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3, and Sunday at 4.
