Celebrate the Planet at Santa Monica Pier Aquarium

For Heal the Bay, every day is Earth Day, but in honor of the 47th annual worldwide observance on April 22, we’ll celebrate for a solid week this year. Heal the Bay’s Nothin’ but Sand clean-up on Saturday, April 15, runs from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the north side of the Santa Monica Pier. Close by at the shoreline, Heal the Bay will run a sand castle building competition from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. Cheer on the builders after cleaning the beach and then visit Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium; all beach clean-up participants are rewarded with free admission to the marine science center, which opens at 11 a.m. that day.

On the official day to commemorate our planet – Saturday, April 22 – the Aquarium’s regular hours of 12:30 to 5 p.m. will be chock full of eco-friendly activities and thanks to sponsor The Albright restaurant on the Santa Monica Pier – admission will be free that day as well. Make a biodegradable planter, enjoy a special Earth Day story time at 2 p.m. followed by a live animal presentation, and check out local wildlife at the Aquarium-staffed observation station from 1 – 4 pmat the west end of the Pier. Can learning about who and what pollutes our local waterways and coastal areas be fun and entertaining? Absolutely! Join an interactive “Who Pollutes?”  presentation for the scoop on keeping our waterways and ocean healthy.

Find the Aquarium at 1600 Ocean Front Walk (beach level, beneath the Merry Go-Round at the Santa Monica Pier). For a list of all Heal the Bay’s activities for the month of April, visit: https://healthebay.org/earth-month-los-angeles-events/
