By Tim Broughton

Rock In The Free World.

On Wednesday, May 31, at 6:40 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a radio call informing them that a man had thrown a rock through a window in the area of the 1300 block of Ocean Avenue. The officers drove to the location and as they were en route the officers received a second radio call telling them that the same individual had just thrown a rock through the passenger side window of a nearby car. The officers accelerated and arrived soon afterwards whereupon they spotted the suspect and detained him. The officers spoke with several witnesses who told them that this man had been picking up rocks from nearby bushes and had been randomly hurling the rocks at the building and at the nearby vehicle. This had caused windows of both the building and the car to shatter. The officers arrested this 32-year-old resident of an unknown place and he was later charged with vandalism. Bail was set at $500.

Bottled Up Anger?

On Wednesday, May 31, at 8:47 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the 3100 block of Lincoln Boulevard in order to investigate a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival at the location the officers spoke with the victim who told them that that he had been walking along the sidewalk when, and for absolutely no apparent reason, the suspect had struck him on the back of the head with a glass bottle. The victim was able to point the suspect out to the officers and the officers approached the suspect, who at that time was standing across the street. The officers attempted to take the suspect into custody but this suspect was non-compliant and a struggle ensued. The officers, utilizing their police skills, were soon able to overpower the suspect and he was soon subdued and able to be searched by the officers. Upon searching this individual the officers discovered that the man was in possession of a knife that had been concealed within his hoodie. This 33-year-old resident of Monrovia was arrested and later charged with assault with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer by force, resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon. Bail was set at $30,000.

Man Exposes Traffic Hazard.

On Wednesday, May 31, at 10:53 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a call from concerned citizens informing them that a man was acting in a bizarre fashion and walking in the middle of the street in the area of Sixth Street and Broadway resulting in a traffic hazard. The officers hastened to the scene and when they arrived in the vicinity they spotted a likely suspect walking in the middle of the 1300 block of Fourth Street, The officers noticed that this man’s pants had dropped to below his knees and that his genitalia was being displayed to members of the general public in the area. The officers exited their police vehicle and made contact with this man. The officers requested that he correct his attire but the man was uncooperative and refused to speak with the officers. The officers took this man into custody and he was arrested shortly afterwards. This 28-year-old Hawthorne resident was charged with public nudity and bail was set at $500.

He Was Teed Off.

On Thursday, June 1, at 5:03 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a radio call informing them that an individual was swinging a golf club at passersby in the area of Ocean Avenue and Broadway. The officers sped to the scene and when they arrived they spotted a man who fit the description of the suspect in the act of swinging a backpack at people near the entrance to the McDonald’s restaurant located in the area. The officers exited their police vehicle and immediately detained the suspect. The officers interviewed witnesses and discovered that the man had earlier been standing in front of the Shore Hotel, located at 1515 Ocean Avenue, and had been swinging not one, but two golf clubs at passersby. The officers determined that the man had also been yelling obscenities and other uncouth comments at people in the vicinity of the Shore Hotel, in addition to picking up a sign and throwing that at a group of people. The officers were told that the security guard from the Shore Hotel had confronted the suspect and that the suspect had then thrown the golf clubs at the security guard before walking away. Based upon these statements from numerous witnesses the officers arrested the man, aged 45 and of no fixed abode, and he was later charged with assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. Bail was set at $30,000.
