A’s Win Rustic Canyon:

June marks the conclusion for most local youth baseball and softball spring leagues.  In the Rustic Canyon league, a low-key kid-friendly program, the A’s, coached by Doug Schiffer, won the Rustic Canyon World Series with a 5-1 victory over the Cardinals.  The Cardinals had the best regular season record in the league, but could not overcome a strong outing by A’s starting pitcher Garrett Yost.

In the consolation game, the Giants bested the Dodgers, 6-3, and the Giants’ effort was anchored by two over-the-fence home runs by slugger Cooper Perkings.

With the spring baseball season “in the books,” next up for many Santa Monica families will be the fall soccer season.  Each year, the American Youth Soccer Organization Santa Monica Region 20 fields well over 1,000 players aged 4-18 (players must be born before January 31, 2003), and is our community’s largest single youth sports league in terms of participation.  For information on soccer sign-ups, go to ayso20.org.
