Engineers Examine Rockslide Area to Ensure Road Safety for Commuters
Los Angeles County Public Works Department officially reopened Malibu Canyon Road to motorists on Monday at 6”00 a.m. on Monday, March 4. The decision comes after engineers from the department completed a thorough inspection of the hillside and determined it is safe for public use.
The Public Works Department said in a social media post, “Thank you for your patience during the closure; your safety is our top priority.”
The road had been temporarily closed due to concerns about potential hazards following a recent rock slide on Malibu Canyon Road near Piuma. After the two atmospheric river series of storms, many canyon roads have been subject to mudslides and rockslides.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traveling along Malibu Canyon Road, just as a precaution. The Public Works Department emphasizes the importance of adhering to traffic guidelines and remaining vigilant for any debris on the road.
