Westside Basketball Roundup:

The Venice High boys’ basketball team hopes to be competitive in the always-powerful Western League and has some impressive non-league credentials.

 Venice has a 9-8 record that includes a 77-59 victory over Santa Barbara.

 After losing to Santa Monica, 55-43, Venice was edged by Oxnard, 63-62.

 In league games Venice will be going against Fairfax and Westchester, two of the best high school teams in California.

 The Venice girls aren’t doing nearly as well. The team has a 3-10 record that includes a 46-30 victory over Edison of Stockton. In recent games, Venice lost to Kennedy of Sacramento, 65-3,8 and Vallejo, 60-45.

 The Crossroads girls are 8-4 and will have a home game Friday, January 11 against Brentwood at 5:30 p.m.  The Crossroads boys, who are 11-2, will follow with a 7:30 game, also against Brentwood.

 Also on Friday night, January 11, the Santa Monica High boys will have their first Ocean League home game at 7:30 p.m. against Inglewood. On the same night the Samohi girls will play at Inglewood.
