Caltrans warned motorists to expect blind curves and stopped traffic in the area
Caltrans will impose intermittent lane closures and overnight shutdowns along Pacific Coast Highway and Topanga Canyon Boulevard through Feb. 15 as crews continue fire-related repairs and emergency infrastructure work following the Palisades Fire.
Along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, traffic will be affected between Temescal Canyon Road and Carbon Beach Terrace. Caltrans said speed limits will be reduced to 35 mph between Temescal Canyon Road and Sunset Boulevard and to 25 mph from Sunset Boulevard to Carbon Beach Terrace, where active work zones will be in place. Possible weekday lane closures may occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Caltrans will suspend its own work on PCH during the Presidents Day holiday period, from 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16. However, Southern California Edison will continue utility-related work along PCH in select areas over the weekend of Feb. 14–15. No SCE work is planned on Topanga Canyon Boulevard during that time, though traffic controls will remain in place.
Caltrans said multiple work zones may be active along PCH, including areas from the Ventura County line to Carbon Beach Terrace, where nighttime work is possible.
Additional locations include Trancas Canyon Road to Guernsey Avenue, the Corral Canyon Bridge, south of Las Flores Canyon Road to Sunset Boulevard for overnight fire and slope repairs, and Carbon Canyon Road to Topanga Canyon Boulevard, where SCE trenching may affect northbound and southbound lanes, including weekends. Weekday lane reductions are also expected near Big Rock Drive, the Getty Villa and Castellammare Mesa, where overnight northbound closures may shift traffic into southbound lanes.
Topanga Canyon Boulevard, also known as State Route 27, will be closed nightly between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive from midnight to 5 a.m., including over the holiday weekend. From 5 a.m. to midnight, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction with a pilot car guiding vehicles through the work zone. SCE trenching along SR-27 is scheduled for weekdays only.
