The Los Angeles Police Department will conduct DUI saturation patrols this weekend and into next week as part of an ongoing enforcement effort.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, officers will patrol from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. in West Valley Division. Similar saturation patrols are scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 9, in Devonshire Division and Monday, Aug. 10, in North Hollywood Division, both from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The department said locations for checkpoints and patrols are chosen based on data showing impaired-driving crashes and arrests. The primary goal is to educate drivers and remove suspected impaired motorists from the road.
Officials noted that impairment can result from alcohol, certain prescription or over-the-counter medications, and marijuana. Driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal even though the substance is legal for medicinal and recreational use in California.
