Santa Monica Wins District 25 Tournament:

The Santa Monica National Junior All-Star baseball team won the District 25 Tournament in Beverly Hills with a 9-4 victory over North Venice on July 10.

The competition began on June 23. Santa Monica defeated Beverly Hills, Culver City, Culver Marina and North Venice.

However, North Venice defeated Santa Monica, 5-3, requiring another game to determine the tournament winner.

Santa Monica National advanced to the Sectionals, hosted by Lomita Little League. The survivor of that tournament will go on to the Western Regionals.

Sergio Carrasco manages the team. The assistant coaches are Mo Chavez and Manny Rubio.

The roster: Oscar Carrasco, Anthony Chavez, Joseph Corrigan, Conor Fahey, Lucas Giolitto, Spencer Goodman, Kevin Hammer, JD Locy, Tyler Mulvaney, Trent Nelson, Keenen Pierandozzi- Howes, Matthew Rubio, Lorenzo Whiting and Austin Wilson.

Early in the tournament Hammer’s foul tip hit him in the eye and resulted in a fractured bone, concussion, temporary loss of vision and stitches. He watched the remaining games of the tournament and cheered on his teammates. Every member of the team placed a black mark under his right eye.
