Brentwood came through with a big win in its final Delphic League game and improved its’ seeding for the CIF Division 13 football playoffs.
With a 14-11 victory over Campbell Hall, Brentwood finished second in the league behind Whittier Christian.
Both teams were given first round home games Friday night. However, since Brentwood’s field doesn’t have lights, it must find another site. At press time a site hadn’t been determined.
Brentwood wanted to play Saturday afternoon, but its opponent, Calvary Chapel of Murietta, had the option of declining and did.
“This has happened to us before,’’ said Brentwood Coach Patrick Brown. “It’s nothing new.’’
Maranatha, which upset Campbell Hall the previous week, earned the league’s third playoff berth. Although Campbell Hall finished fourth it got in too, with an at-large berth. Both Maranatha and Campbell Hall must travel to their opening games.
There was an oddity in Brentwood’s win. The Eagles gave up two safeties in a game for the first time in Brown’s 26 years as coach.
Brentwood held a 14-7 halftime lead. The Eagles gave up the safeties in the second half but no other points.
In another oddity Brentwood won while making only two first downs. Brent Hansen Askar scored the first touchdown on a 22-yard fumble return and Mason Moss threw a 25-yard pass to Tony Armato for the second.Brentwood has lost only to Whittier Christian and Mojave.
