Spectacular Vernacular Tour Sunday, September 18 from 1 – 5 pm:

Don’t tear it down! is the theme of our annual house tour, spotlighting the architectural qualities and charm of five vintage homes throughout Santa Monica. Three architectural styles will be featured— Victorian, Craftsman and Spanish Colonial Revival— with each home demonstrating different approaches to renovation and expansion. These homeowners chose to retain their historic homes and modify them for contemporary living rather than demolish and start anew.

To diners, that’s left a confusing puzzle of arithmetic at the bottom of the bill, which can include a 3 percent medical insurance surcharge, a tacked-on 20 percent service charge – and sometimes even a line after that seeking a tip.
