Clean Money Is Topic of Talk Tonight:

The Santa Monica Democratic Club will host a presentation by Susan Lerner, Executive Director of the “California Clean Money Campaign,” this evening at 7 p.m. at St. Anne’s Community Room, at the corner of 20th Street and Colorado Avenue.

To date, Arizona, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and North Carolina have passed versions of campaign finance reform, and some Californians would like to add this state to the list.

According to CCMC, Clean Money reform measures have lowered overall campaign spending, freed candidates from fundraising, increased voter turnout, and encouraged a broader range of candidates to run for public office.

Janet Napolitano of Arizona is the first governor elected exclusively with public funds.

Lerner founded the “Committee for Judicial Independence” dedicated to an independent federal judiciary and, for 20 years, was a trial lawyer specializing in commercial litigation and intellectual property.

Santa Monica City Council member Kevin McKeown will participate in the discussion.

A “Q and A” session will follow the discussion. The public is invited to attend the meeting. It’s free, as is parking. Refreshments will be served.
