Irishman Dermot Butterly (aka Gandhi Rollingstone), currently a Los Angeles resident, started his “Gandhi Peacewalk” – a walk across America, from Los Angeles to Washington DC, dressed as Mahatma Gandhi, at the Self Realization Fellowship in Pacific Palisades on Saturday, May 16. Butterly says he is inspired by Gandhi’s principle, ”be the change you want to see in the world” and will spend about 5 1/2 months, walking 5-6hrs a day (between 15-20 miles), inviting people to join him for any portion of the walk. He says his motivation is “peace within myself.” Butterly started a non-profit organization called Peace of the Heart Foundation and is hoping to raise money to build a community center in India, and other projects.
