Singer Natalie Cole, who stepped out from her father’s shadow to become a singer and star on her own talents, has died, it was reported today.
Cole, 65, had been suffering recently from hepatitis and other maladies. She died at a Los Angeles-area hospital of congestive heart failure.
Cole had been scheduled for a New Year’s Eve concert at Walt Disney Hall, which was cancelled.
Cole burst into super-stardom in 1991, appearing in a mashup videotape with her late father, the jazz great Nat King Cole, singing a duet of “Unforgettable.” The single sold more than 6 million copies.
Her powerful cover of “This Will Be,” Our Love” and “Pink Cadillac” were other cross-format hits.
Her death was widely reported, but no details about it were released by her family or publicist.
