Los Angeles City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl visited the Westside’s two emergency winter shelters, the West Los Angeles Armory and the Culver City Armory, on Tuesday, January 15, in an effort to draw attention to the problem of homelessness in his district. He served dinner at WLA and visited the shelter in Culver City. These two facilities provide 150 shelter beds each to the Westside each year from December through March. On Tuesday evening, 128 beds were occupied at WLA and 100 at Culver City.
Eimago, Inc., a partner organization of Union Rescue Mission, is running the program this year. Rosendahl, Councilmember Jan Perry, and County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky were able to find additional funding and a new agency to run the program, which was in danger of being unavailable.
“The winter shelter program provides critical services on the Westside,” Rosendahl said. “We already have an immense shortage of shelters and resources for the homeless. Losing this program would have been devastating.
