Santa Monica College Remains Off Limits Following Friday’s Shooting Spree:

Santa Monica College is still off limits to all — but students have been told their belongings left behind during Friday’s shooting evacuation are safe.

“We know many in our college community are concerned with their belongings and vehicles that were left behind,” an email to students read. “Please rest assured that your belongings are safe. The campus continues to be secured by a number of law enforcement agencies. No one was given access to the campus overnight or this morning.”

The email said SMC officials do have a plan for retrieval of property, but they do not yet know when this will take place.

“We will notify the college community just as soon as we are given authority by law enforcement,” the email read. “Please be prepared for the fact that the procedure for retrieval will be somewhat complex and lengthy, and your patience will be appreciated as we work through these extraordinary circumstances.”

Anyone with further questions can call the college incident call center at 310.434.3500, which will be staffed today until 9pm.
