In his brilliant routine on “Stuff,” comedian George Carlin illuminated the contradictions of having possessions and then needing to figure out what to do with them. “Your home is just a place for your stuff, with a roof over it” Carlin points out and then discusses how complicated it can be to go on vacation and enter a vortex of frustration over what to do with all the stuff you brought with you in order to relax on vacation.

Chain Reaction Petition Surpasses 1,000 Online Signatures

Activists working with Save Chain Reaction announced this week that their grassroots campaign to save and restore the late Paul Conrad's iconic 26-foot-tall nuclear mushroom cloud peace sculpture in the Santa Monica Civic Center has just surpassed 1,000 online petition signatures.

The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium at 1855 Main Street is poised to close by June 30.

Full Renovation Of Santa Monica Civic Auditorium Bill: At Least $50 Million

In less than three weeks, the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium will undergo full closure. It may be at least five years before the venue could ever be used again as a cultural destination. And if the venue is indeed revived, the tab will run at least $50 million.

While there was a healthy turnout and a tailwind of positive energy at the community meeting regarding the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on Tuesday night, there were also at least two distinct vibes in the room that might cause a fan of our historic Civic Auditorium some sleeplessness.
