104 Firefighters Handle Stubborn Pacific Palisades Vegetation Fire:

Latest Fire Department news.

Los Angeles firefighters were able to get a handle on a stubborn vegetation fire that burned below the oceanfront bluffs at Pacific Palisades.

It took 104 firefighters a total of 3 hours and 28 minutes to put out the two-and-a-half acre fire, said Shawn Lenske of the Los Angeles Fire Department. It burned trees and brush above Pacific Coast Highway, south of Temescal Canyon Road.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 2:59 a.m. and will continue the mop up effort this morning, Lenske said. No injuries were reported and there was no structure loss.

By 8 a.m., PCH had been reopened, with two of the three northbound lanes blocked by fire trucks.

The brushy area is a frequent site for homeless encampments, and warming fires are often seen there in colder weather, firefighters said.
