Samohi Sprinter Comes Close to Tying Record:

Daniel Locke came within one-tenth of a second of tying the Santa Monica High 100 meter record when he ran a 10.3 at the recent CIF meet.

The school record is 10.2.

Locke, who is also a tailback on the football team, qualified for the state meet in Sacramento as an alternate but did not get an opportunity to run there.

When running his 10.3 Locke got off to a slow start but recovered.Samohi’s Stephanie Thornton, the Ocean League champion in the 800 meters, also was an alternate at the state meet but did not get an opportunity to run.
