Gospel Jubilee at Mount Olive Church on Sunday:

The Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Santa Monica and Jeta Entertainment will present a Gospel Jubilee on Sunday,  August 21, featuring Jean Shy singing Mahalia Jackson.

Shy will be accompanied by the Ron Bishop Trio and they will perform a mix of gospels and spirituals drawn from the repertoire of the legendary Jackson.

Shy was born in Chicago and her career as a singer is rooted in gospel music. Subsequent musical influences ranged from Jackson to Elvis Presley, Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington to Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight.

After making a name for herself in this country, Shy went to Europe, and Germany became her second home. There, she formed her own Band, The Shy Guys, and together they  performed at major festivals, concert halls and churches throughout Europe for the better part of two decades.

Last year, Shy returned to America and is now touring with her latest CD, “One Day,” which includes some of the songs  she will sing at Mount Olive.

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Sunday and the concert will begin at 5 p.m.

Mount Olive Lutheran Church is located at 1343 Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica.Everyone is invited and free donations will be accepted at the door.
