High School Football Season Begins Friday

The 2005 high school football season will begin Friday, highlighted by the debut of Santa Monica High’s highly regarded team in a non-league game against West Torrance.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Corsair Field.

St. Monica will open at Bishop Montgomery, also at 7 p.m. Brentwood will oppose Animo High of Inglewood at 4 p.m. at Coleman Stadium in Inglewood. Malibu will open Saturday at 2 p.m. at Rio Hondo Prep.

Tennis Event To Help Combat Breast Cancer

Tennis players of all ages and skills are invited to participate in the eighth annual Westside Challenge To Beat Breast Cancer Saturday, Oct. 22 at the LA Tennis Center at UCLA.

Proceeds will go to the low cost mammography program at the Santa Monica/UCLA Medical Center.

There will be a round robin tennis marathon, family activities, entertainment, a silent auction, a tennis clinic, and awards ceremony. All participants will receive a tennis bag.For information call Rick Grant at (310) 823-0157 or emailricgrant1@earthlink.net.
