Next Citizen Police Academy Begins Next Week:

The next Santa Monica Police Department Citizen Police Academy will begin on Wednesday, November 9.

The 11-week program, which meets one night each week for three hours, gives participants an detailed look at the department’s operations, responsibilities and procedures. Classes are taught by police officers, police executives and specialized non-sworn department employees.

The course includes demonstrations, discussions, lectures and participation in mock exercises. Units that will be included in the course are Defensive Tactics Team, Metro Team, K-9, Traffic Enforcement and Internal Affairs. Participants will also tour the Public Safety building, in which a majority of the classes will be held.

Enrollment is open to anyone over the age of 21, who lives, works or attends school in Santa Monica. Applications will be accepted until the class is full.For an application or more information, call the Santa Monica Police Department’s Community Relations Unit at (310) 458-8474.
