Running back Kenny Ashley of Venice has been named offensive player of the year in the Western League. Cornerback and safety Jonas Mouton of Venice was named the league’s defensive player of the year.

Boys’ Basketball

Three members of last season’s SMC men’s team are now at four-year colleges. Center Cameron Clay is playing at Chicago State, forward Efrem Lawrence at UNLV, where he walked on and made the team without a scholarship and guard Jonathon Smith is at Georgia State, not at Cal State Northridge where he made a commitment. Guard Derrick Williams transferred to another two-year school, College of the Canyons, where he is the team’s second-leading scorer.

Pacifica Christian, a new high school at 18th and Wilshire in Santa Monica, is off to a 4-0 start, including a win over Oaks Christian.

Boys’ SoccerSanta Monica High defeated Peninsula, 1-0 in the South Bay Westside Tournament as Victor Rivas scored the only goal. The Viking goalie was Rory McElroy. Samohi has a 4-0 record.
