Basketball Teams Head For League Competition:

Following non-league and tournament play in December, Westside boys and girls’ high school basketball teams will begin their league schedules this month.

The Santa Monica High boys will begin Ocean League play January 11 at Morningside and have their league home opener January 13 against Inglewood at 7:30 p.m.

At the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic, the Vikings defeated Mira Costa 55-48 and lost to Santa Barbara 55-54. The overall record is now 8-5.

Neither St. Monica nor Crossroads has played in the last week.

Brentwood went to Maui and played four tournament games. The Eagles lost to Fairview of Boulder, Colorado 66-59, defeated Fullerton 47-41 and Colony of Arkansas 47-38 and lost to Beverly Hills 41-38.

Andreas Schreiber is averaging 16.2 points and 9.1 rebounds and Adam Carneol is the second-leading scorer at 7.1. The Eagles’ record is 7-6.

Malibu had four games in the San Fernando Valley Tournament.

The Sharks lost to Crescenta Valley 61-39 and Saugus 69-55, defeated North Hollywood 55-51 and were defeated by L.A. High 57-38, leaving the team with a 4-9 record.

Daron Ravenborg is the leading scorer and rebounder with averages of 13 and 6.

Venice lost to Dos Pueblos 75-63 in the Santa Barbara tournament and has a 4-3 record. On January 11, Venice will play its Western League opener, hosting Westchester at 4 p.m.

Palisades was also in the Santa Barbara tournament and played four games. The Dolphins defeated Saugus 58-43 and Oxnard 54-50 before losing to Pasadena 55-40 and El Toro 48-40. The team has a 7-6 record.

In the girls’ play, Santa Monica High won three games in the Garden Grove Tournament and have a 10-1 record.

The wins were over Oxford Academy (65-16), Trabuco Hills (70-49) and California High of Whittier (77-61). The Vikings will begin Ocean League play January 11 at home against Morningside. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Crossroads’ record became 1-8 with a 53-38 loss to Malibu. The Sharks are 6-3.

The Palisades girls traveled to the West Coast Jamboree in Pittsburg, California. Palisades got past Fairfield 35-33 and lost to Kennedy of Sacramento 58-48.

Venice played in the Santa Barbara Tournament, defeating Corcoran 65-50 and losing to Oaks Christian, 57-50. Venice has a 7-3 record.
