Traffic Stop in Santa Monica Leads to Forgery, Identity Theft and Drug Arrest

Officers conducting the traffic stop discovered that the driver had an outstanding warrant related to forgery.

A routine traffic stop in downtown Santa Monica resulted in the arrest of a driver wanted on a forgery warrant and the seizure of suspected narcotics and dozens of fraudulent identification documents, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

The arrest occurred near Ocean Avenue and Broadway during the week of May 31 through June 6, police said in a weekly enforcement recap.

Officers conducting the traffic stop discovered that the driver had an outstanding warrant related to forgery. During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers recovered ketamine and approximately 30 forged documents, including driver’s licenses and Social Security cards, according to police.

The suspect was arrested on charges related to forgery, identity theft and narcotics possession. Police did not release the individual’s name or additional details regarding the investigation.

The incident was among several enforcement actions highlighted by the Santa Monica Police Department during the reporting period. Between May 31 and June 6, officers responded to 2,652 calls for service and made 98 arrests citywide.
