On Friday, January 27, the Institute for the Advancement of Multicultural & Minority Medicine (IAMMM, www.iammm.org) held a meeting at Shutters Hotel in Santa Monica of health care experts, physicians and lawmakers, including Congresswomen Dianne Watson, Hilda Solis, and Maxine Waters, to discuss health disparities in America. The gathering was the first of what the Institute hopes will be a series of discussions between health care scholars, professionals, and elected leaders on ways to address health issues facing underserved communities. The Institute also presented service awards to the Congresswomen, State Senator Nell Soto, and State Assembly members Carol Liu, Mervyn Dymally and Matk Ridley Thomas, all of whom took part in the dialogue.Leading the dialogue was Dr. Thomas A.
