Thousands of people are expected to participate in the 8th Annual Cesar E. Chavez Walk. It is a day of remembrance for the United Farm Workers founder, both marking what would have been his 79th birthday (March 31) and celebrating the sixth year that the state of California has honored Chavez’s birthday as an official state holiday.Among walkers who will assemble at historic Olvera Street are UFW President Arturo Rodriguez, Chavez family members, celebrities and school-aged children. Says Rodriquez, “The best tribute to Cesar Chavez is the thousands of young people who will walk to show their commitment to continue his legacy.”The April 1 walk commences at 9am on Historic Olvera Street, 125 Paseo de la Plaza (at kiosk on Main St. between Arcadia and Cesar Chavez Ave.) Walkers return for a program and festival at approximately 11:30am.
