Crossroads defeated New Roads, 10-6, in the first baseball game of the season between a pair of Westside schools.The game at Clover Park was part of the Crossroads Classic.St. Monica began its season with a 6-3 victory over Morningside in the Southern California Invitational but then lost to Grace Brethren, 11-3 and Campbell Hall, 7-4.Brentwood has started fast with a 14-3 win over Crossroads followed by a 12-1 victory over Buckley.Malibu has a 2-2 record. After losing to Santa Monica, 3-1 the Sharks defeated LA Baptist, 4-2, lost to Oxnard, 15-2 and outslugged St. Bernard, 16-11.In the LA City Section, Palisades defeated Notre Dame, 10-6 and Glendale, 11-2 and lost to Santa Monica, 6-2 and Cleveland, 7-0.Venice, which frequently fields strong teams under the direction of Coach Tim Alcantar, lost its first three games. The Gondoliers were defeated by Bishop Montgomery, 7-2, by Palos Verdes, 11-2 and by Mira Costa, 16-0.SoftballSt. Monica won its first three games of the season, all in its own tournament. The Mariners defeated Leuzinger, 4-2, then had two shutouts, 7-0 over Marymount and 1-0 over Whitney as Alex Pegnato compiled an .800 batting average and stole eight bases and Amber Angel hit .600 and has an 0.00 ERA.Crossroads lost to Glendale Hoover, 10-2 and Notre Dame Academy, 10-1, then defeated Lawndale, 2-1.New Roads began with an 8-0 shutout of Beverly Hills and also had an 8-0 win over Marymount following a 3-2 loss to Whitney.Brentwood defeated Oakwood, 12-2, then lost to Providence, 5-2 and Mayfair, 13-0.Malibu has a 5-1 win over Channel Islands and a 4-1 victory over Avalon.In the LA City Section, Palisades lost to Lincoln, 5-4 and Venice was blanked by Crenshaw, 13-0.
