Defending champion Andre Agassi has entered the Countrywide Classic tennis tournament at UCLA July 24-30. It will probably be his final appearance in Los Angeles because Agassi has announced his retirement following this year’s U.S. Open.
Agassi has won the Los Angeles event three times in the last five years and four times overall. He has won 60 tour championships.
The tournament, which began in 1927, enters its 80th year under a different name (it was formerly the Mercedes-Benz Cup). It is Los Angeles’ longest-running professional sports event.
Among other players who have committed to play is Lleyton Hewitt of Australia.
