Dark Iris Brightens Promenade:

Santa Monica artist Lita Albuquerque’s work can be found throughout Los Angeles, California, the U.S., and as far away as Japan and Nairobi.

Now, one of Santa Monica’s most popular destinations for locals and tourists alike is home to Albuquerque’s latest offering. Albuquerque’s vision for Dark Iris, 18 banners hanging along the Third Street Promenade, are the first new banners on the street in 17 years. Each silk-screened banner has a different image on each side, making for 36 individual stories the artwork tells.

Commissioned by the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs and the Bayside District Corporation, this is Albuquerque’s first public installation in her hometown.
