SMC Takes Lead In Women’s Soccer:

The newest first place team in town is the Santa Monica College women’s soccer squad.

SMC took over the lead in the Western State Conference Southern Division with a 1-0 victory over No. 2-rated Pierce College at John Adams Middle School last week.

Goalie Andy Gierman had eight saves in recording her fifth shutout of the season. She was under tremendous pressure as Pierce outshot SMC, 25-8.

“We weathered the storm,” said SMC Coach Aaron Benditson.

Lydia Ladden scored the only goal. It was her fifth in SMC’s last five games.

SMC has a 5-4 overall record but is 3-1 in the conference.
