SMC’s “Best Game” Not Enough to Win:

Although the Santa Monica College football team lost to Hancock Saturday, 35-17, Coach Robert Taylor said it was the best game his team has played.

“Even better than our win over West Los Angeles,” he said.

SMC has a 1-5 record and Hancock, the leader of the Western State Conference North Division, is 5-1. Yet it was a competitive game.

An 80-yard return of a fumble for a touchdown by Mike Abena reduced SMC’s deficit to 21-17 in the fourth quarter before Hancock pulled away.

SMC Quarterback Colin Clancy threw for 229 yards.

On Saturday, October 21, SMC will play at Harbor. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
