SMC’s Braswell, Gottlieb Earn All-Tournament Honors:

   Two Santa Monica College freshmen basketball players, 6-foot-4 Arthur Braswell and 6-1 Noah Gottlieb, were named to the all-tournament team when the Corsairs played in the San Jose event last month.

         Braswell is from Westchester High and Gottlieb from Venice High.

         SMC has a 3-3 record. It lost to San Bernardino Valley College, 60-50, then had wins in San Jose over Skyline College (71-62) and San Jose, which was ranked ninth in the state (76-71).

         Kevin Brown, who was an assistant on Trevor Shickman’s staff last season, has become head coach of Crossroads. His SMC position has been filled by Alvin Zeidenfeld, who was an assistant at Bishop Amat High.

         The SMC women’s basketball team, coached by Lydia Strong, began the week with a 5-4 record.

         When the men and women play on the same program this season the men’s games will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the women will play at 7:30.
