Team Santa Monica Excels in Swim Meet:

Team Santa Monica captured fifth place among 20 swimming teams at the recent 2007 Pacific Committee Spring Short Course Championships hosted by Rose Bowl Aquatics in Pasadena.

“I’m very proud of the spirit our swimmers displayed,” said Coach Jon Carroll.

Orion Young, 14, finished in the top three of each of the seven events he entered.

J.P. Mortenson, 8, and his 10-year-old sister Nina, combined for three gold medals. In the mile, Lilana Castro, 11, Bailey Munchkin, 13, and Jonathon Lait, 14, all were winners.

Members of Santa Monica residents’ advocacy group residocracy.org filed with the Santa Monica City Clerk yesterday a Notice of Intent to circulate the Land Use Voter Empowerment Initiative (LUVE Initiative), a proposed ballot measure that could give voters the final say on approval of large development in the city.
