Palisades Earns Fourth Seed In City Baseball Playoffs:

The Championship Division of the Los Angeles City Section baseball playoffs have been dominated by San Fernando Valley teams for 30 years.

         Last season Kennedy High of Granada Hills surprised Chatsworth in the final game at Dodger Stadium, 4-2. Now seedings have been announced for the 16-team tournament which began Wednesday, May 23. Chatsworth is seeded first and Kennedy second.

         But the Western league has earned respect as Palisades has drawn the No. 4 seed behind Marine League champion Narbonne.

         Palisades had a slow start to the season, but went 15-0 in league games and is 21-9 overall.

         Two outstanding pitchers help make the team strong. Cole Cook, who has an 8-1 record, has committed to play next season at Pepperdine. Johnny Bromberg is 8-4.

         Palisades was scheduled to open at home May 23 against 13th seeded Sylmar. The championship game is scheduled for Dodger Stadium on June 2.

         In the Invitational Division comprised of teams ranked 17th through 32nd, Venice is seeded 11th and was also scheduled to open May 23 at Verdugo Hills.

         Venice finished fourth in the Western League. The Gondoliers have a 14-11 record.
