COMMUNITY BRIEFS:

SMC finished third in the national Student Match League contest. 184 community colleges from around the country participated. Individual honors include Chan Ieong Kuan, who finished fifth, and Alexandre Boulgakov, who finished third. Though still a student at Samohi, Boulgakov has taken math classes at SMC.

Together, over 5,700 students at Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount universities contributed 18,000 pounds of clothing to Planet Aid’s clothing drives. Recycling bins were placed on both campuses. Planet Aid prevents over 60 million pounds of textiles from going into landfills every year, and uses money earned from selling used clothing to promote sustainable programs in developing countries.
