First Presbyterian Rededicated:

Rev. William A. Wood III received a congratulatory proclamation from Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, honoring the official dedication of the newly renovated First Presbyterian Church of Santa Monica. Supervisor Yaroslavsky said, “This church has a 130-year history of contributing services in Santa Monica and is almost as old as Santa Monica itself.” Congratulatory letters were also received from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Senators Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein.

Santa Monica Councilmember Kevin McKeown attended on behalf of Mayor Richard Bloom. Also in attendance were Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Jim Lynch, and John and June Bohn, who have been married for 55 years. Said Bohn, outgoing Chamber Chairman of the Board and past president of the trustees of the church, “I am thrilled with the beautifully restored church.” He also talked about Westminster Towers, a church-sponsored project in Santa Monica that provides more than 600 housing units for low-income elderly people, adding, “We [the church] provide more low-cost senior housing than any other Santa Monica organization.”
