St. Monica Remains Winless:

The St. Monica football team had an early goal-line stand but couldn’t build on the momentum in a 39-0 loss to Verbum Dei Saturday, October 27.

Both teams entered the game with 0-7 records and the Mariners’ deficit was only 6-0 after one quarter. But then St. Monica made a series of mistakes, including two bad snaps on punts and a penalty that wiped out a touchdown. One punt went for only four yards.

“We’re inconsistent,” said Coach Shawn Ritter. “We played much better on offense a week ago but couldn’t get anything going in this game.”

A highlight on defense was an interception by Rafael Padilla.

St. Monica has two remaining chances to avoid a winless season in games against La Salle and Mary Star.
