Baseball, Softball Roundup:

The Santa Monica High softball team, defending Ocean League champions, opened its season with a 7-6 victory over Canyon High.

Coach Debbie Skaggs has a young and talented squad with only three seniors.

 Westchester High’s softball team has opened with a 1-3 record. Two of the losses were to perennial power San Pedro, 6-0 and 8-3. The Comets also defeated Washington, 10-0, and lost to Chino, 3-0.

 Venice began with a 10-2 loss to Marshall and had an 0-0 tie with Cleveland.

 In baseball, Crossroads lost to Milken, 8-6, and Windward, 5-1. Brentwood won at Salesian, 2-1, and Venice lost to Mira Costa, 7-3, in the El Segundo Tournament.
