Santa Monica High’s James Hecht has been named Ocean League Coach of the Year and senior forward Ed Willis Player of the Year in boys’ basketball.
Hecht guided the Vikings to the league championship despite losing three starters from last year’s squad. In his 14th season at Samohi Hecht’s team won 20 games for the third consecutive time.
Although the team featured balanced scoring most of the way, Willis emerged as the big scorer down the stretch.
Junior Kunno Shofu was chosen first team all-league and senior guard Justin Maxwell was voted to the all-league second team.
