Samohi Coach Watches Daughter In State Title Game:

First-year Santa Monica High baseball coach Rob Duron had a dilemma last week – for a few minutes.

Duron’s daughter, Megan, plays basketball for Mira Costa High, which reached the state championship game in Sacramento for the first time in school history. But Samohi had a baseball game against Crespi High on the same day.

Duron quickly solved his problem by recalling one of his mottos – “family first.” He called Crespi Coach Scott Muckey and asked if the baseball game could be moved to Monday, March 17.

The change was made and Duron and his family flew to Sacramento and even though Mira Costa lost in overtime, the coach described the trip as “a once in a lifetime experience.”
