The Santa Monica High baseball and softball teams will begin the CIF playoffs Friday, May 16 with 3:15 p.m. home games on their respective campus fields.
Both teams were awarded home games because they won Ocean League championships.
The baseball team will host St. Joseph of Santa Maria, the second place team from the Los Podres League, in a Division 4 match-up. Senior Paul Salazar is expected to pitch for Samohi.
The softball team will host Sonora, the second place team from the Freeway League. Sophomore Celisha Walker is the likely Samohi pitcher.
Two other Westside baseball teams have qualified for first round games Friday. Brentwood (Alpha League #2) will play at Bishop Diego (Frontier League #1) in Division 5. New Roads (Harbor League #3) will be at Chadwick (Prep League #3) in Division 6.
In softball, New Roads (Harbor #3) will play at St. Matthias (Santa Cruz #1) and Crossroads (Alpha #3) will travel to South El Monte (Mission #1).
