53rd Annual Huck Finn Day:

June 14

Maybe summer brings out the urge to put on overalls, go fishing, and be a kid again. Maybe that’s why, not only is that folksy kid Huck Finn the subject of a play (currently at the Edgemar Center) but he’s being saluted with this day-long celebration presented by Santa Monica Jaycees. There will be a pie-eating contest, hacky-sack race, balloon toss, and of course, fishing, plus a Huck Finn costume contest. It’s for kids and those who are still kids at heart. 9am-11:30pm, free, Douglas Park, 2439 Wilshire Blvd., smjaycees.org.
