Westside Youth Rowers Excel Nationally:

Four young women from Marina Aquatic Center Junior Rowing earned silver medals in the quadruple sculls at the 2008 USRowing Youth National Championships on June 15 near Cincinnati.

Lindsay Pollack was in stroke position, followed by Ariana Chehrazi, Anna Rasmussen and Katie O’Hanlon steering the boat from the bow. Their time of 7:12.77 was six seconds behind the winning team from Long Beach and 23 seconds ahead of the third place team from Connecticut.

“Rowing definitely gives our athletes a leg-up in the college recruitment process,” said head coach Zohar Abramowitz. “But at Marina Aquatic Center we focus on much more. Our 80-member Junior Rowing program affords teens the discipline, teammanship and sense of pride that will serve them well throughout their lives.”

On the strength of their performance the silver medal-winning team was invited by USRowing to represent their country at the Pan-American Youth Championships next month in Oklahoma City.

Marina Aquatic Center is located at 14001 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey.
