Santa Monica Art Studios 4th Anniversary Open House, October 18-19, 6-9pm Saturday, 1-5pm Sunday, free, Santa Monica Art Studios, 3026 Airport Ave., 310.397.7456. Down near the airport, 34 artists reside in studios created from old hangars, and this weekend they’re opening their studios to visitors. Also included in the open house is the exhibit at nearby Arena 1 Gallery, “Luna Luna In The Sky,” and over at Bergamot Station, Sherry Frumkin, co-founder of Santa Monica Studios, will open her gallery for the Barbara Grover exhibit Refuge(e): Moments With the Darfuri of Iridimi.

Living Library, October 18, noon-4pm, free, Santa Monica Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Blvd., 310.458.8600.An idea born in Denmark is making its debut at the Santa Monica Library: check out a person instead of a book. Everyone’s got a story, right? Participants need not have library cards, but can check out a person from the available group of volunteers for 30 minutes, and must “return the book in the same mental and physical condition as borrowed.” Volunteers who will share their life stories with borrowers are said to include a Buddhist, a nudist, a teenager, and a foodist.
