Samohi Baseball Field Gets Improvements:

Throughout his first season as the Santa Monica High baseball coach in 2008, Rob Duron was frustrated by the lack of a cart to smooth out the infield – basic equipment at many schools. But the problem has been solved and Duron thanks Suzy Kim of the Santa Monica Police Department Community Relations Unit.

“We can now drag and take care of the field,” he said. “In addition, we have a completely rebuilt pitching mound thanks to some donations and hard work by our field maintenance crew headed by Bart Burdick.”

Despite the team’s lack of power hitting, Samohi won the Ocean League in Duron’s first season.

“We coaches have little problems that we fight through for the good of the kids,” he said, “We hope to be competitive again in the upcoming season.”
