Santa Monica High won the Beverly Hills basketball tournament Saturday night, December 13, defeating Crespi, 60-53.
Kunnu Sofu, Samohi’s 6-foot-5-inch center, was named MVP of the tournament.
The Vikings’ record improved to 7-1, their only loss to Fairfax in the finals of the Redondo Tournament.
“This is the deepest and one of the most athletic teams I’ve had here,” said veteran Samohi coach James Hecht. “We’re playing 10 or 11 guys in each game and keeping defensive pressure on the opponent.”
The Vikings have been without guard Donte Bowie due to a knee injury, but he’s been cleared to practice and is expected to begin playing shortly after Christmas.
In the Beverly Hills Tournament semi-finals Samohi routed Ocean League rival Culver City, 95-61.
