Venice Carries on Baseball Tradition:

Venice High has a proud baseball tradition, and this season’s team started fast in quest of keeping it going.The Gondoliers, coming off a couple of off-years, had a 7-7 record when they played Westchester on April 15. Two days earlier Westchester had defeated Venice, 8-5.Junior catcher Daniel Hordo is Venice’s most honored player in his young career and is hitting .423. Anthony Smith has a .448 average, Sam Ramos is at .333. Nolan Ohliger .294 and Nic Losman .276.Palisades is leading the Western League but Venice and Westchester are hopeful of gaining playoff berths too.Art Harris, who coached Venice to an LA City championship, became head coach at West Los Angeles College 25 years ago. The school dropped baseball four years later but restored the program a year ago and retired Harris’ number.Harris has worked in the Dodgers’ scouting department since he left West LA.
