Considering where the Crossroads baseball program was the last two years it’s remarkable that the Roadrunners have an eye on the Delphic League championship, and even if they don’t succeed they’re likely to make the CIF playoffs. After defeating Kilpatrick twice last week, second place Crossroads will meet first place Windward this week in two games. Windward is undefeated in league games and Crossroads has one loss to Sierra Canyon.Windward is a powerhouse that will be favored but Crossroads, with an 11-3 overall record, is a worthy challenger. The last two years Crossroads had records of 8-13 and 8-12.Then Pat Armstrong was elevated from junior varsity head coach to varsity co-head coach with Matt Amido and the Roadrunners have become a winning team. The emergence of sophomore Max Robinson has been important. Robinson is the Roadrunners’ best pitcher with a 7-0 record and went three-for-three with five RBI in a 16-1 win over Kilpatrick Friday night at Clover Park.Junior Josh Flyer hit a home run in that game. After the teams play Tuesday at Windward Robinson is scheduled to start for Crossroads Friday night, May 8 (7 p.m.) at Clover Park. It would be surprising if both teams aren’t chosen for the CIF playoffs.
